Title
Post medieval fob seal matrix
Description
English: A copper alloy post medieval (18th-19th century) fob seal matrix with an inset intaglio of red orange stone dating to AD.1700-1900. The object has a rectangular tray containing the stone intaglio. Surmounting this is the decorative suspension loop made up of a symmetrical cast plate that has been folded, it is decorated with foliate and spiral design and forms a split arch. There is a small loop at the top of this that would have been used to suspend the seal. There is some surface evidence for gilding in the recesses of the object's decoration, otherwise it has a dark green patina. The seal measures 28.4mm in height, 15.4mm in length, 14.2mm in width, and weighs 6.78g.
