Title |
Post medieval coin or medal |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete pewter military button, dating to the post-medieval period (c.1780-1800). It is a sub-circular disc of lead with no evidence of attachment, and is very flaked, with one surface having completely peeled off. The design on the remaining surface is difficult to interpret, though it appears to depict an image in the centre with two 'shield-like' shapes at either side, and the letters [...]VND present around one edge.
On the rear of the object is a central circular pit which may be an attachment loop scar. Dimensions: diameter 21mm, weight 4g, thickness 3mm There are a number of examples of military buttons on the PAS database. See also the following website: http://www.britishmilitarybuttons.co.uk/ which has an extensive gallery. |
