Title |
Post medieval asymmetrical buckle |
||
Description |
English: A corroded, incomplete post medieval cast copper-alloy double-looped asymmetrical buckle frame, with part of the pin missing. The frame is complete and is formed of a one 'D' shaped loop and one square loop, with a shared central pin bar. The upper surface of the buckle is bevelled, and the lower surface on the outer edge of the 'D' loop is concave. On the pin bar is the corroded remains of the pin, which is made of a different copper alloy to the frame. On the outer edge of the square loop there is a copper alloy sheet roller, possibly made of the same alloy as the pin, which is fix in place with corrosion. The buckle measures 17.6mm (length) x 19.9 mm (width) x 3.9mm (thickness) and weighs 1.56g.
Whitehead dates undecorated double loop asymmetrical buckles to circa 1575 to 1700 AD (1996, 90). |
