Title |
Post medieval asymmetrical buckle |
||
Description |
English: Post Medieval cast copper alloy probable asymmetrical double loop buckle. The buckle is broken, now only one loop remains; the second loop would probably have been rectangular but is missing. The strap bar is broken and lost and the pin is also lost. The breaks are slightly worn. The remaining loop is roughly D-shaped with the centre of the outer edge extended forward into a point giving a ogee curve to each side and a lobed knop at each end of the missing strap bar. It is rectangular in section. It has been bent upwards at one end of the frame. The buckle now measures 60.2 mm long, 26.1 mm wide and 2.6 mm thick; it weighs 7.52g.
Whitehead (2003;90) illustrates a similar, more complete example, no. 559, which he dates to 1575-1700 AD. |
