Title |
Post medieval apothecary's weight |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy apothecary weight dating from the post medieval period. It is rectangular and flat and is marked with the symbol for two scruples and a rose on both faces. It is 26.81mm long, 26.21mm wide and 17.47mm thick. It weighs 1.99g. It is thus a little light for its intended weight of two scruples or 2.6g, but the weight is worn. Symbol and rose weights probably date from the 17th century and a very similar example can be seen on page 11 of Apothecaries Weights by Biggs (1994). |
