Post medieval S-shaped belt hook with zoomorphic terminals
Description
English: Post medieval belt hook; Cast copper alloy S-shaped belt hook with snake head terminals dated to the 16th or 17th century. Single bar of copper alloy curled round at either end to act as a fixing for a belt. Each end is cast with a narrow ‘snout’ with a line for a mouth, brow ridges in relief and small eyes. There are also patches of a scaly pattern on the curves (which would be the back of the ‘necks’ of the snakes. The hook also has a cast decorative band around the centre with leaf or feather shapes extending from both sides towards the snakes heads.

Length 42.7mm, width (back of one head to back of the other head) 28.8mm, thickness 7.6mm, weight 19.74g
