Title |
Post medieval: Silver shoe buckle. |
||
Description |
English: A silver shoe buckle with attached silver chape.
The rectangular buckle frame has transverse grooves along each outer edge. The silver chape is held in place on the frame by an iron spindle. The terminal of the chape has a bifurcating extension which is pierced for attachment to a missing fitting. An iron pin partly survives. For further examples please see Whitehead, p. 101-102. This item is more than 300 years old and composed of more than 10% precious metal. It therefore should be considered Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996.
