Title
Post medieval: Incomplete rectangular buckle frame
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy rectangular buckle, with a drilled frame, from a shoe buckle of Post Medieval dating (c. AD 1690 to c. AD 1720).

Only the buckle frame is present. The pin, spindle and chape are missing, presumed lost in antiquity.

The buckle frame is rectangular in shape, with bevelled external edges.

It measures 22.1 mm in length, 16.9 mm wide and 5.0 mm thick. It weighs 3.0 g.

The buckle frame is a dark green colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

Similar buckle frames have been published as no 650-653 by Whitehead (2003, p 102) and have been dated to c. AD 1690 to c. AD 1720.
