Title
Post medieval: Complete asymmetrical double loop buckle frame
Description
English: A complete copper alloy double looped asymmetrical buckle, of Early Post Medieval dating (c. AD 1575 - c. AD 1700).

Only the frame is present, the pin and buckle plate are missing.

The buckle is asymmetrical in shape. It exhibits an ovoid knop (decorated as a leaf) on the outer edge of the rounded loop. Lobed knops are present on either end of the strap bar. Iron corrosion products are present on the central bar, indicating that the pin was originally made from iron.

It measures 29.1 mm in length, 16.4 mm wide and 5.5 mm thick. It weighs 2.3 g.

The buckle is a mid to dark brown, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

This buckle is similar in style to those classified as double loop asymmetrical buckles by Whitehead (1996, p.92, #582-4), Whitehead has dated this style of buckle to the Early Post Medieval period (c. AD 1575 - c. AD 1700).
