Title
Post medieval: Complete asymmetrical double loop buckle frame
Description
English: A complete copper alloy double looped asymmetrical buckle frame, of Early Post Medieval dating (c. AD 1575 - c. AD 1700).

Only the frame is present, the pin and buckle plate are missing.

The buckle is asymmetrical in shape. The remnants of six lobed knops (quite worn) are present on the ouside edge of the rectangular loop. Two lobed semi circular knops are present at symmetrical points on the outer edge of the sub circular loop. A lobed rectangular knop is present at either end of the strap bar. The upper edges of the buckle frame are bevelled. The reverse is flat.

The buckle is a mid to dark green colour, with a slightly abraded patina covering the surface. Soil pressure has resulted in the buckle frame being slightly bent.

The buckle measures 36.1 mm in length, 22.8 mm wide and 3.2 mm thick. It weighs 5.2 grams.

This buckle is similar in style to those classified as double loop asymmetrical buckles by Whitehead (2003, p.91, #577), Whitehead has dated this style of buckle to the Early Post Medieval period (c. AD 1575 - c. AD 1700).
