Title
Post Medieval mutilated coin of Edward VI
Description
English: A silver Post Medieval coin of Edward VI (AD 1547 - 1553), uncertain issue and date. The coin has been cut into two pieces, the centre removed, and the remaining crescents folded round each other. One piece was bent into a loop, and the other was folded round the loop, with one end tucked through it and bent to secure it. They remain linked but not adhered to each other. Parts of the legends are visible, and part of the shield on the reverse, but not the obverse design.

It is not clear whether it was the intention to make this knot, or whether these pieces are the waste material after cutting out and keeping the central part of the coin.

The size of the coin is difficult to estimate. It is probably about 23 - 30mm diameter. The flan is 0.7mm thick. The mutilated coin is 18.5mm long, 13.6mm wide and 6.9mm thick. 1.49g.
