Title
Post Medieval hook terminal
Description
English: A fragment of a copper alloy multi-faceted cuboid object probably of Post Medieval to early Modern in date. The object consists of a multi-faceted cuboid head (8.9mm in width) with a short circular cross-section bent stub, projecting from the centre of its lower face. Fragments such as this are commonly identified either as the terminal part of an 18th/19th century clothes hook, or the head of a multi-faceted Roman pin. The general diagnostic features of this type of Roman pin are corrosion or patination commensurate with age and frequent use of ring and dot motifs on the head itself. Clothes hooks usually have a stem that starts to bend close to where it projects from the head. On this basis this object is probably a Post Medieval coat hook (cf SUSS-59F935) although judging from a photographic record alone makes it difficult to be definitive. The object is a mottled green to brown colour.
