Title
Post Medieval coin hoard
Description
English: A group of four coins, three of William III and one of Charles II, three which are silver and one copper alloy.

1) A silver half crown of Charles II (1660 - 1685), fourth bust (1672 - 1684), date and edge legend illegible. See Spink's Standard Catalogue number 3367. 32.83mm diamater, 1.72mm thick. 13.29g. Die axis: 7o'clock.

2) A silver sixpence of William III (1694 - 1702), first bust (1695 - 1696), date illegible. See Spink's Standard Catalogue number 3520. 20.61mm diameter, 0.92mm thick, 2.8g. Die axis 6o'clock.

3) A copper alloy half penny of William III (1694 - 1702), first issue (1695 - 1698), date illegible. See Spink's Standard Catalogue number 3554. 28.37mm diameter, 2.09mm thick, 9.45g. Die axis 6 o'clock.

4) A silver shilling of William III (1694 - 1702), first bust, Bristol mint (1696 - 1697), date illegible. See Spink's Standard Catalogue number 3498. 24.74mm diameter, 1.13mm thick, 4.78g. Die axis 6 o'clock.

These coins could all have been in circulation at the same time and probably represent a purse loss. The latest date the youngest coin could have been minted in 1698, so it iv very likely that the hoard dates from before 1712. As the silver coins contain more than 10% silver, they meet the requirements of the 1996 Treasure Act.
