Title |
Post Medieval cannon ball |
||
Description |
English: An iron cannon ball of Post Medieval date. It is a sphere of iron which is about 60mm in diameter and weighs about 900g. It is probably a cannon ball from a Falcon cannon (which had a 2.5 inch bore and fired 2lb balls), though there is also the possibility that it is a crushing ball from a much later industrial process. The cannon ball is likely to date from the English Civil Wars (1642 - 1651) during which time Sheffield Castle changed hands several times. |
