Title
Post Medieval barrel padlock (combination)
Description
English:

An incomplete copper alloy combination padlock. The lock comprises a cylindrical case made up of five rotating discs, each of which would originally have rotated around a central axis to allow the letter combination to be achieved, and a fixed disc at each end. The remains of the axis bar can be seen within the discs which are now corroded in place. The fixed discs at either end would have held the rotating ones in place. The remnants of an arched hasp or shackle project from the two outer discs. From intact outer disc, running left to right, the symbols on each disc are: (1) O Z V * +; (2) F E R I H O; (3) M L F O K - ; (4)P E V X inverted L * R; (5) V Z * T S V; (6) * * * * * ; (7) S + * X *

The metal has a mid-green patina with patches of iron corrosion, particularly on the 5th rotating disc.

The padlock is 19.91mm long, 26.33mm tall, the handle is 5.62mm thick, and the discs are 16.61mm in diameter. It weighs 27.36g.
