Post Medieval asymmetrical double loop buckle
Description
English: A copper alloy asymmetrical double loop buckle. One of the loops is D shaped with an oval expansion inwards at the centre of the loop which is decorated with two sets of double incised lines making a chevron pattern. The other loop is rectangular with the outer edge shaped into two concave curves with rounded cusps at either end and a convex curved centre between them; it also has an incised line running doen the centre of the front of the outer edge . The strap bar is narrowed. The buckle is 37mm long, 31mm wide, 2mm thick and weighs 6.17g. Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar example p.91 no.571 and dates this design of between 1575 and 1700 AD.
