Title
Post Medieval S-shaped Strap Fitting
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy belt fitting from the Post Medieval period, c. 1500-1600.

The hook S-shaped in plan and semi-circular in section. Both arms of the S are symmetrically decorated on both faces. At the centre of the object is a collar flanked by leaf-like motif on either side which divides the arms. Each terminal of the fitting bears a beast's head with eyes, ears and a snout with open mouth.

The fitting is very worn and has a green patina. The curve of one of the arms is in-filled with a material covered in orange-brown corrosion.

See: NCL-BD1CE5 and NCL-A53928 for parallel finds.
