Title |
Post Medieval Pipe Tamper |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy pipe tamper. At one end the tamper is shaped to incorporate a signet ring. The ring bezel carries the initials I B with three dots in an upright row between and an exploded cross with pellet centre to the top and bottom. The base of the tamper is broken and missing. Such pipe tampers date from the mid-17th to the mid 18th century. Similar examples are illustrated in Bailey (1992, 61; 12, 13).
Dated c.1650-1750 AD. |
