Post Medieval Fob Seal (impression) |
||
Description |
English: A post medieval copper alloy fob seal matrix. The upper body of the matrix is pyramidal, while the lower portion has near-vertical sides, the whole covered in incised lines including scallop shells. From the top of the pyramid an openwork framework (slightly bent), with floral flourishes, supports a node drilled through to receive an attachment ring. The ring is split lengthwise so that it can be removed when needed.
The base of the pyramid contains a rectangular intaglio of a very pale mauve stone, with chamfered edges. A scene has been engraved on it, consisting of a draped figure holding an upright spear and a cap of liberty in the right hand and possibly a cornucopia with flowers. The matrix is 40 mm high (including ring), and weighs 7.52 grams. |
