Title
Post Medieval Cloth Seal
Description
English: Late Post Medieval to Modern lead alloy kosher seal. The seal is circular and has a slot running through it from top to bottom, cord would be run around the object then through the slot and it which would have been squeezed closed to attach it to the cord. One face has a raised Star of David (open interlocked equilateral triangles forming a six pointed star), the other the number 321. . It is 15.9mm in diameter and 3.5mm thick. It weighs 2.63gm.

The seal may be from meat or some other goods where similar restrictions apply, and denotes that the merchandise is Kosher. The number probably relates to the manufacturer/butcher. Similar examples on this database include ESS-FE7782, LIN-290B62 and SWYOR-C096C7. This is a relatively late style, probably 18th to 19th century in date.
