Title
Post Medieval: Subannular Buckle Frame
Description
English: A complete copper alloy double loop sub annular buckle frame, of Post Medieval dating (AD 1650 to AD 1720).

The buckle frame is complete. The plate and pin are missing, presumably lost in antiquity. The buckle frame is sub annular in shape, with two semi circular loops. The frame exhibits moulded decoration, consisting of 10 moulded recessed concave roundels. These roundels are now empty but would have originally held glass stones. The reverse is plain and undecorated.

The buckle frame measures 29.6 mm in length, 26.3 mm wide and 3.5 mm thick. It weighs 6.4 grams.

The buckle frame is a mid green colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

A similar buckle frame has been published as no 282 by Whitehead (1996, 49) and has been dated to the Early Post Medieval period (c. AD 1650 and c. AD 1720). Several similar buckle frames have been recorded on the PAS database, including: CORN-607CC6; YORYM-8F8D33; NLM-378E16; CORN-2C6087; DENO-6695A2.
