Title
Post Medieval: Sub rectangular shoe / knee buckle
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy sub rectangular knee buckle, with a drilled frame for a separate spindle, of Post Medieval dating (c. AD 1720 to AD 1790).

The buckle is sub rectangular in plan, with a moulded probable rectangular knop on the inside edge of the frame over the spindle hole. Two moulded curvilinear lines are present round the inside and outer edges of the frame. It has an anchor shaped chape, with three tongues.

It measures 24.74 mm in length, 27.18 mm wide and 3.95 mm thick. It weighs 6.0 g.

It is a dark brown colour, with an even surface patina.

A similar buckle has been published as no. 709 in Whitehead (1993, page 111) and has been dated to c. AD 1720 to c. AD 1790, as use as a shoe buckle.
