Title
Post Medieval: Openwork rectangular buckle
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy sub rectangular openwork buckle frame, with a separate spindle, of Post medieval dating (c. 1720s - c. 1790s AD).

Approximately 25% of the buckle frame is present. The pin, spindle and buckle plate are missing. The frame is L shaped in plan. It consists of an openwork design, with rectangular holds at the cardinal points. The decorations consists of alternating ring & dots with sub rectangular sections between them. The reverse is plain and undecorated.

The buckle frame is a mid to dark green colour, with an even surface patina.

It measures 21.31 in length, 17.85mm wide and 2.98mm thick. It weighs 2.5 grams.

No direct parallel has been found for this buckle frame yet, but the size and style of decoration suggests that it is similar to #684 in Whitehead (2003, 107), and is probably of Post Medieval dating (c.1720s to c. 1790s AD).
