Title |
Post Medieval: Incomplete rectangular double looped buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy double looped rectangular buckle, of Early Post Medieval dating (16th to 17th Centuries AD).
Approximately 50% of the buckle frame is present, the plate & pin are missing. The buckle was symmetrical in shape. The surviving loop is rectangular in shape and the frame is sub square in cross-section. A double loped knop is present, with a V shaped groove in the top, as a pin rest on the external edge of the loop. The central bar is slightly recessed. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The buckle is a dark green colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail. The buckle measures 22.6 mm in length, 23.2 mm wide and 3.3 mm thick. It weighs 3.5 grams. |
