Title |
Post Medieval: Incomplete ceramic chicken feeder |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete wheel thrown ceramic Chicken Feeder of Post Medieval dating (18th to 19th Centuries AD).
The chicken feeder is circular in plan, with three vertical concentric partitions on the front face and a flat base. It has a diameter of 16cm, is 4.2cm tall and the base is 1.1cm thick. It weighs 700 grams. The internal partitions are 0.82cm thick. The fabric consists of an oxidised matrix, with occasional mica and red clay inclusions, similar to a flower pot type earthenware, most consistent with an local (unsourced) fabric type, of 18th to 19th Century dating. A similar find was found in Suffolk and recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database as SF-9E8415 (<a href="http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/448491">http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/448491</a>). That example has been dating to 16th to 17th Centuries, based on the fabric type. The fabric type of this example is more consistent with a later date of 18th to 19th Centuries. |
