Post Medieval: Complete S shaped mount / strap fitting
Description
English: A complete copper alloy strap fitting / mount, of Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1700).

The mount is 'S' shaped, with a thicker centre and rounded points at either end. An integral attachment spike, with a square cross section is present in the centre of the reverse. It gradually tapers towards a blunt point, which has been bent over at a slight angle. The front is slightly convex and the back concave.

It measures 26.4 mm in length, 13.6 mm wide and 13.0 mm thick (including spike), 3.4 mm thick (not including spike). It weighs 3.7 g.

The mount is a mid to dark green colour, with an even surface patina.

Similar S shaped mounts have been recorded on the PAS database including: BH-1E7C84, NMS-0B2490 and SUSS-454967. All are considered to be Post Medieval in dating (AD 1500 to AD 1700).
