Description Greetings from NOAA’s National Weather Service office in Lincoln, Illinois! We have been serving a population of approximately 1.6 million people across central and southeast Illinois for the last 12 years. The Central Illinois WFO hosted its annual office picnic in conjunction with the Lincoln Art and Balloon Festival, which was held in the WFO’s backyard at the Logan County Airport. Staff and family members gathered on the WFO grounds to sunny but breezy conditions. However, winds diminished enough for the first of a couple dozen balloons to take off while this picture was being taken. Our own contribution to the balloon festival, the routine evening weather balloon and radiosonde launch, was cheered on by the large crowd of family members, as well and spectators along the nearby highway.
