Title |
Post-medieval trapezoidal buckle |
||
Description |
English: Broken cast copper alloy double-loop, trapezoidal buckle, missing one loop, with ornate moulded outer edge consisting of two outer lobes and a pointed front in the shape of a trefoil. The pointed centre of the edge of the remaining loop is engraved with a notch, for the pin to rest on, and a transverse line which runs the length of the outer edge of the loop. The narrowed strap bar has two lobed protrusions, one at either end, and the pin is missing. The frame has a flat base and slightly bevelled outer edges and is flat in profile.
The buckle frame is 23.7 mm long and 24.5 mm wide and 2.2 mm in thickness. The bar is 21.8 mm long and 2.8 mm wide and 2.4 mm in thickness. Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar buckle on page 84, Plate No.524, which is dated from c.1620-1680. Read (1988) illustrates a similar buckle on page 144, No.930, which is dated from c.1600-1650. |
