Title
Post-medieval toy gun
Description
English: An incomplete, lead alloy toy musket dating to the post-medieval period (c. AD 1500 - 1800). The toy was cast in two pieces to allow for the fixing of the iron trigger and trigger guard between the two halves; some evidence of these features survives as a corrosion layer. The stock of the musket in intact and uniform in width, with a plain flat butt. There is moulded decoration on both sides of the stock, in a series of diagonal lines interspersed with rows of circles in sets of three, all enclosed with a line around the side of the stock. Beyond this the piece tapers down to a plain, circular, hollow barrel, which has lost some of its length. On the upper side of the barrel, just beyond the remains of the trigger, is a small circular, uncovered powder pan. There are a number of similar examples on the database: SUSS-C53AA6 YORYM-21F68C.
