Title
Post-medieval token
Description
English: A complete medieval to post-medieval, biface, cast lead sub-circular token. The token is decorated on one face with a long cross and a circle in each quarter, each circle contains one pellet and resembles Powell Type 14. The other face has raised letters I B, Powell Type 2 (Fletcher 2005: 101-102).

Lead tokens were easy to produce and widely circulated; examples with long cross and pellet designs may have imitated medieval long cross pennies, or base silver farthings issued by Tudor monarchs (Fletcher 2005: 45-47). However, they continued in use throughout both the medieval and post-medieval periods. Therefore, a general date of c. 1250-1800 is suggested for this type.
