Title
Post-medieval to Modern : Toy
Description
English: An incomplete cast lead toy of late post-medieval to modern date. The toy is in the form of a horse with mounted rider.

The rider sits on the horse leaning forwards with his head also facing forwards. Both arms are raised to near face level and what appear to be the butt of a gun can be seen resting on the riders' left shoulder suggesting he is a hunter. The rider is wearing a hat, jacket with rolled sleeves, belt, long trousers and knee high riding boots with a slight heel.
The horse appears to be in a canter with legs bent and raised. The bridle wear can be clearly seen across the head of the horse and the reigns rest around its neck. The saddle can be seen beneath the rider with a blanket between it and the horse. The ears, eyes, nose and mane of the horse have been picked out in fine detail but the tail no longer remains.
The horse is cast integrally to a sub-rectangular base which would have allowed it to stand though it has now become uneven. A casting flash can be seen running along the centre of the base and continuing up the legs of the horse and around the rider.

The metal has a shiny blackish-grey patina and is worn. The toy is 55.8mm long, 12.4mm wide, 6.2mm thick and weighs 53.3g.
