Title |
Post-medieval spur |
||
Description |
English: A complete, copper alloy rowel spur dating to the post-medieval period (c. AD 1600-1800). The sides are straight, with both terminals containing a single iron rivet. The neck is also straight, and ends in a circular rowel box. The intact rowel bears 20 visible 'teeth', though it is corroded in place and perhaps five or six remain hidden in the rowel box.
The small size of the rowel, straight sides and single-rivet terminals suggest that this object dates to the late post-medieval period, though it does not have the characteristic buckle attachments common in post-17th century spurs. |
