Title |
Post-medieval spectacle buckle |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy double-loop oval spectacle buckle with moulded knops either end of the strap bar. The strap bar is narrowed and flush with the frame and the knops have raised lozenge-shaped mouldings. The frame is semi-circular in section, with a flat base and convex upper face. The outer edges of the frame are slightly expanded, and the inner edges are bevelled. The pin is missing and there is no evidence for it having rested on the frame.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar example on page 54, No.304, which is dated to c.1500-1650. Read (1988) illustrates a similar example on page 110, No.677, which is dated to c.1485-1600. |
