Title
Post-medieval saddle fitting
Description
English: A decorative copper alloy saddle fitting, dating from the post-medieval to modern period (c. AD 1750-1900). The object comprises a sub-circular and hemispherical top which tapers into a round, projection above, held in place by a tang below (round in section). This tang extends from the underside of the hemispherical top, and on either side are two deep grooves, likely to aid in the attachment to the saddle. The object has been decorated with a series of lines, dots and circles. Some appear to have been applied, others are integral and appear to have been cast. Traces of white metal coating survive across the whole object.
