Title
Post-medieval purse bar
Description
English: An incomplete, late medieval/early post-medieval copper alloy purse bar (Williams Class A).

The object is formed of a bar with two cast arms and a swivelling rectangular loop on top with a narrowing attachment bar. The right arm of the purse bar observing from the slightly less worn side has an oval terminal which narrows at the attachment to the item. There are 2 oval discs with a dip between them, then a curved upper side and straight lower side with 3 round sewing holes along its length. There are 2 raised lines giving the bar a rectangular cross section leading to the central block which has an aperture from top to bottom where the swivelling loop passes through. The left arm is symmetrical with the right arm with the exception of the terminal which is missing and appears to have broken in antiquity as the break is worn. The bar is 61.52mm wide as worn and the loop is 32.56mm from top to bottom. It weighs 29.85g. Cf. FAKL-A8A01A.
