Title |
Post-medieval pipe tamper |
||
Description |
English: A complete, copper alloy pipe tamper dating to the post-medieval period (c. AD 1600-1800). The pipe tamper is shaped like a hand holding a pipe, with the thumb against the bottom of the pipe stem, two fingers above, and two below. The forearm is sleeved, with a collar at the wrist and one at the foot. The foot of the pipe tamper flares out slightly, but is otherwise undecorated. The base of the foot is decorated with a cross-hatched design.
