Title
Post-medieval hominoid spectacle buckle
Description
English: Incomplete cast copper alloy double-loop oval spectacle buckle frame with all-over moulded surface decoration. The outer edge of each loop has a collared barrel moulding half way along it, beyond which, on either side, are moulded curvilinear ribs framed by four collars and two scrolled knops at symmetrical points on each loop. There is a lobed knop in the form of a hominoid head at either end of the strap bar, which is narrowed and slightly recessed from the 'chins' of the heads. Whitehead (1996) illustrates a very similar example on page 68, No.427, which is dated to c.1550-1650.
