Title
Post-medieval dress pin.
Description
English: Post-medieval silver dress pin of the bodkin type, bent several times throughout the length. The shank is of flattened hexagonal section and is engraved on both broad faces towards the upper end with a foliar motif within an elongated triangle. Above this the cross-section becomes rectangular and then two pairs of grooves flank a engraved saltire with central annulet on both broad faces and a rounded profile on the barrow sides. Above this a standard rectangular slot lies below another pair of grooves. Then a round aperture, probably for attachment, is surrounded by sets of radial grooves. The top is missing, the break cutting across another rounded and probably circular aperture. Length at least 101mm. Maximum width 5.5mm. Maximum thickness 2.5mm. Weight 8.24g. 17th century.
