Title |
Post-medieval double-looped asymmetrical buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: A corroded and bent cast copper-alloy post-medieval double-looped buckle frame of asymmetrical form. One loop is trapezoidal while the other is D-shaped. The former has two curved removals on its outer edge; the edge is delineated by a transverse incision on the upper surface. The rounded end of the other loop is also slightly expanded. It is slightly rabbeted at its outer edge. The upper surface is bevelled shallowly from the internal edge to the external; the lower surface is flat. The pin is missing. The artefact has been bent around the pin bar at an angle of around fifty degrees as a result of old damage. Such buckles tend to be attributed a 17th-century date (cf. Whitehead 1996, 91; ref. 571). This artefact has corroded to a red/brown colour with patches of dull-green corrosion product. |
