Title
Post-medieval double-looped asymmetrical buckle frame
Description
English: A slightly corroded and bent cast copper-alloy post-medieval double-looped buckle frame of asymmetrical form. One loop is trapezoidal while the other is D-shaped. The former has two curved removals on its outer edge; the edge is delineated by a transverse incision on the upper surface. The rounded end of the other loop is also slightly expanded. It is slightly rabetted at its outer edge; within this is pair of diagonal incisions that delineate the moulded centre. There is a further possible pair of incisions at the corners, now somewhat obscured by corrosion. The upper surface is bevelled shallowly from the internal edge to the external, bevelling paralleled internally on the lower surface. The pin is missing. The artefact has been bent around the pin bar at an angle of about 20 degrees. Such buckles tend to be attributed a 17th-century date (cf. Whitehead 1996, 91; ref. 571). This artefact has corroded to a dull grey colour with some patches of off-white corrosion product; some of the shinier areas may be tinned.
