Title |
Post-medieval double-looped asymmetrical buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: A corroded cast copper-alloy post-medieval double-looped buckle frame of asymmetrical form. One loop is rectangular while the other is D-shaped. The pin bar features orange staining around its centre, suggesting that the pin, now missing, was made of iron. The buckle is flat with bevelling to the upper surface on the D-shaped loop externally; this is echoed by internal bevelling on the lower surface. A crude linear trefoil has been incised on the upper surface of the outer edge of the curved loop. Viewed in profile the loops have been bent upwards: it is uncertain whether this was as a result of old damage or was an common effect of use. Such buckles tend to be attributed a 17th-century date (see Whitehead 1996, 91). This artefact has corroded to a red-brown colour, but is mostly covered with green corrosion product. |
