Title |
Post-medieval double-looped asymmetrical buckle |
||
Description |
English: A slightly worn and corroded cast asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame of post-medieval date. This example is incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin. One loop of the buckle is D-shaped, while the other is sub-rectangular with an angled outer edge. On each angle of the latter, and centrally, is a bifid knop. There is also a single pointed knop at each end of the pin bar. The edges are externally bevelled on the upper surface; the lower surface is flat. The buckle has corroded to a red-brown colour with large areas of lighter green and off-white corrosion product. It is bent is profile at an angle of around twenty degrees at the pin bar. Around this latter is the corroded remnant of an iron pin. Similar, although not identical, examples can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 92; e.g. ref. 576). |
