Title
Post-medieval copper-alloy toy musket
Description
English: A copper-alloy toy musket of post-medieval, 17th century date. The musket suffers from some damage to its butt, which was probably originally fish tail shaped, and the trigger guard is also broken and missing. There is also damage to the tip of the barrel and on the underside, although this is most likely to have occurred during post-deposition and is probably not a result of an explosion. The barrel is faceted and on the upper side above the trigger guard there is a circuarl moulded pan for the powder. The toy is very worn, although traces of linear decoration remain. The object has a purple/brown patina. It measures 59.49 mm long, 7.39 mm wide, 14.08 mm high and weighs 8.5 grams. Similar examples may be seen illustrated in Forsyth and Egan (2005, pages 89-97; figs 1.22-1.38).
