Title |
Post-medieval buckle |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy, post-medieval two-piece shoe or knee buckle, c. AD 1660-1720. The object comprises moulded pin rests in the outer edge of each loop, and bifold sides with knops around the spindle holes. The back of the object is flat with internal bevelled edges. The pin and pin bar are both missing. The surface may originally have been tinned, although now the patina is a patchy green/brown. There are areas of iron corrosion where bar would have been attached. Cf. Whitehead, 1996: p. 99, no. 619.
Length 34.5mm, width 22.9mm, thickness 3.5mm, weight 4.52g. |
