Title |
Post-medieval asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: A slightly worn and corroded cast asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame of post-medieval date. This example is incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin. One loop of the buckle is D-shaped, while the other is rectangular. The former features a centrally moulded knop on its outer edge. There are also double knops on the four 'corners' of the buckle, and a single knop, obvious at one the end of the pin bar. The edges, externally bevelled on the upper surface, are ridged; the lower surface is flat. The buckle has corroded to a red-brown colour with large areas of lighter green and off-white corrosion product. It is bent is profile. Similar examples can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 92; e.g. ref. 576). |
