Post-medieval asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: A cast asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame of post-medieval date. One loop of the buckle is rounded, with two projecting lobed knops, top and bottom, and the other half is rectangular, with four equally-spaced notches on the long side which form five lobed knops. At each end of the slightly off-centre pin bar there is a further lobed knop. The buckle appears to have been tinned. The pin is now missing; iron staining around the pin bar suggests at the pin's composition. The buckle has a flat reverse, while the upper face is bevelled both internally and externally to the loops. A very similar example can be seen illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 92; ref. 577). A number of similar buckles have been recorded on this database. |
