Title |
Post-medieval asymmetrical double-looped buckle |
||
Description |
English: A corroded and bent cast asymmetrical double-looped buckle frame of post-medieval date. This example is incomplete in so far as it is missing most of its pin, the corroded iron remains of which survive in situ. One loop of the buckle is D-shaped, while the other is trapezoidal. The former features a centrally moulded trilobed knop on its outer edge, perhaps in the form of an acorn with pointed central protrusion. There is a small transverse ridge on the frame aligned to the pin bar. The edges are externally bevelled on the upper surface; the lower surface is flat. The buckle has corroded to a dull red-brown colour with patches of light-green corrosion product. One of the loop has been been bent in profile to an angle of about twenty-five degrees, either as a result of old damage or use. Similar examples can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 92). |
