Title
Post-medieval S-shaped strap fitting
Description
English: A copper-alloy S-shaped, snake-form belt fastener of probable late 16th or 17th century AD date (G. Bailey, 1997, p. 20).

The object has been cast and has moulded decoration on both sides. Each side of the two terminals depicts the head of a serpent-like creature, with well-moulded eyes, snout and possibly hair. The necks are covered with scales and there is a central decorative band consisting of a series of pellets with a raised line either side. Decorative plumes extend from beneath this central band. The fastener is heavily worn, particularly on the underside of the necks, at which point the hooked fasteners would have adjoined.

The object measures 40.9mm long by 21.9mm wide and 6.5mm thick. It weighs 13.26g.
