Title
Post-medieval S-shaped belt fastener
Description
English: A copper-alloy S-shaped belt fastener of probable late 16th to 17th century AD date (H. Geake; 2001; pp. 36).

The cast object takes the form of the heads and necks of two serpents or birds. The moulded surface decoration is executed on all sides of the fitting but is heavily corroded and difficult to decipher. On each head the eyes and open mouth are visible and there is crest on top. The necks are of sub-circular section and increase in diameter towards the centre of the object, where there is a moulded band. The surface appears to have been tinned.

The fastener measures 30.1mm long, 16.3mm wide and 5.2mm thick. The weight is 6.98g.
