Title
Post-medieval S-shaped belt fastener
Description
English: A copper-alloy S-shaped belt fastener of probable late 16th to 17th century AD date (H. Geake; 2001; pp. 36). The cast object takes the form of the heads and necks of two serpents or swans. The moulded surface decoration is executed on all sides of the fitting. Each head has a beak-like nose, well defined ring-shaped eyes and, along the length of the neck, moulded feathers or scales. The two animals are separated by a double moulded band which is depicted on each side as holding in place a bundle of sticks or similar. The object is slightly corroded. It measures 43.9mm long, 21.9mm wide and 6mm thick. The weight is 15.94g.
